Judging Others (Luke 6:37–42; Romans 14:1–12)
WBS For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and the measure which ye give, shall be measured to you again. BSB BSB: For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
WBS And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thy own eye? BSB BSB: Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
WBS Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thy eye; and behold, a beam is in thy own eye? BSB BSB: How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye?
WBS Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thy own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. BSB BSB: You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
WBS Give not that which is holy to dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. BSB BSB: Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.
Ask, Seek, Knock (Luke 11:5–13)
WBS Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened to you: BSB BSB: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
WBS For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, the door shall be opened. BSB BSB: For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
WBS Or what man is there of you, who, if his son shall ask bread, will give him a stone? BSB BSB: Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
WBS Or if he shall ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? BSB BSB: Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
WBS If ye then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? BSB BSB: So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
WBS Therefore all things whatever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. BSB BSB: In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow Gate (Luke 13:22–30)
WBS Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in by it. BSB BSB: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
WBS Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth to life, and few there are that find it. BSB BSB: But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit (Luke 6:43–45)
WBS Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. BSB BSB: Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
WBS Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. BSB BSB: Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
WBS A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. BSB BSB: A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
WBS Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. BSB BSB: Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
WBS Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them, BSB BSB: So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.
WBS Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out demons? and in thy name done many wonderful works? BSB BSB: Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
WBS And then will I profess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. BSB BSB: Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’
The House on the Rock (Luke 6:46–49)
WBS Therefore whoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house upon a rock: BSB BSB: Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
WBS And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. BSB BSB: The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock.
WBS And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: BSB BSB: But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
WBS And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it. BSB BSB: The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its collapse!”
The Authority of Jesus 28 WBS And it came to pass when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine. BSB BSB: When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,
WBS For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. BSB BSB: because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
