1. 1ULBበመጀመሪያ ቃል ነበረ፤ ቃልም ከእግዚአብሔር ጋር ነበረ፤ ቃልም እግዚአብሔር ነበረ፤BSBBSB: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2. 2ULBይህም ቃል ከመጀመሪያው ከእግዚአብሔር ጋር ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: He was with God in the beginning.
3. 3ULBሁሉም ነገር የተሠራው በእርሱ አማካይነት ነው፤ ከተሠሩት ነገሮች ሁሉ ያለ እርሱ የተሠራ አንድም ነገር አልነበረም፡፡BSBBSB: Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.
4. 4ULBበእርሱ ሕይወት ነበረ፤ያም ሕይወት የሰው ሁሉ ብርሃን ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5. 5ULBብርሃኑ በጨለማ ይበራል፤ ጨለማም ሊያጠፋው አልቻለም፡፡BSBBSB: The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6. 6ULBከእግዚአብሔር የተላከ ስሙ ዮሐንስ የሚባል አንድ ሰው ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: There came a man who was sent from God. His name was John.
7. 7ULBሁሉም በእርሱ እንዲያምኑ እርሱ ስለ ብርሃን ሊመሰክር መጣ።BSBBSB: He came as a witness to testify about the Light, so that through him everyone might believe.
8. 8ULBስለ ብርሃን ሊመሰክር መጣ እንጂ ዮሐንስ ራሱ ብርሃን አልነበረም፡፡BSBBSB: He himself was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9. 9ULBወደ ዓለም የሚመጣውና ለሰው ሁሉ ብርሃን ሰጭ የሆነው እውነተኛ ብርሃን እየመጣ ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: The true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10. 10ULBእርሱ በዓለም ውስጥ ነበር፤ ዓለሙም የተሠራው በእርሱ ነው፤ ዓለም ግን አላወቀውም፤BSBBSB: He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.
11. 11ULBየራሱ ወደ ሆኑት መጣ፤ የገዛ ወገኖቹም አልተቀበሉትም፡፡BSBBSB: He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12. 12ULBለተቀበሉት ሁሉ ግን በስሙ ለሚያምኑት ለእነርሱ የእግዚአብሔር ልጆች የመሆንን መብት ሰጣቸው፡፡BSBBSB: But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—
13. 13ULBእነርሱም ከደምና ከሥጋ ወይም ከሰው ፈቃድ አልተወለዱም፤ ከእግዚአብሔር ተወለዱ እንጂ፡፡BSBBSB: children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.
14. 14ULBቃል ሥጋ ሆነ፤ በመካከላችንም ዐደረ፤ እኛም ጸጋና እውነት የተሞላውን ከአብ ዘንድ ያለውን የአንድያ ልጁን ክብር አየን፡፡BSBBSB: The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15. 15ULBዮሐንስ ስለ እርሱ መሰከረ፤ ድምፁንም ከፍ አድርጎ፣ «ከእኔ በኋላ የሚመጣው እርሱ ከእኔ ይበልጣል፤ 'ከእኔ በፊት ነበርና' ያልኋችሁ ይህ ነው» ይል ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: John testified concerning Him. He cried out, saying, “This is He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’”
16. 16ULBከእርሱ ሙላት ሁላችንም በጸጋ ላይ ጸጋ ተቀበልን፤BSBBSB: From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.
17. 17ULBሕግ በሙሴ በኩል ተሰጥቶ ነበር፤ ጸጋና እውነት ግን በኢየሱስ በኩል መጣ፡፡BSBBSB: For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18. “The only Son” or “the only God”
    18ULBበየትኛውም ጊዜ እግዚአብሔርን ያየው አንድም ሰው የለም፤ ነገር ግን በአባቱ ዕቅፍ ያለውና እርሱ ራሱ እግዚአብሔር የሆነው አንድያ ልጁ እርሱ እግዚአብሔርን እንዲታወቅ አደረገው፡፡BSBBSB: No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.
19. 19ULBአይሁድ ከኢየሩሳሌም ካህናትንና ሌዋውያንን ልከው፣ «አንተ ማን ነህ?» ብለው በጠየቁት ጊዜ፣ የዮሐንስ ምስክርነት ይህ ነው፡፡BSBBSB: And this was John’s testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, “Who are you?”
20. 20ULBእርሱ በግልጽ ተናገረ አልካደምም፤ ነገር ግን፣ «እኔ ክርስቶስ አይደለሁም» ብሎ መለሰላቸው።BSBBSB: He did not refuse to confess, but openly declared, “I am not the Christ.”
21. 21ULBስለዚህ እነርሱም፣ «ታዲያ ማን ነህ? ኤልያስ ነህን?» ብለው ጠየቁት፤ እርሱ፣ «አይደለሁም» አላቸው። እነርሱ፣ «ነቢዩ ነህን?» አሉት፤ እርሱ፣ «አይደለሁም» አለ፡፡BSBBSB: “Then who are you?” they inquired. “Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22. 22ULBከዚያም እነርሱ፣ «ለላኩን መልስ መስጠት እንድንችል፣ አንተ ማን ነህ? ስለ ራስህስ ምን ትላለህ?» አሉት፡፡BSBBSB: So they said to him, “Who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23. 23ULBእርሱ፣ «ልክ ነቢዩ ኢሳይያስ እንዳለው፡- 'የጌታን መንገድ አስተካክሉ' እያለ በምድረ በዳ የሚጮኽ ሰው ድምፅ እኔ ነኝ» አላቸው፡፡BSBBSB: John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet: “I am a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”
24. 24ULBከፈሪሳውያን የተላኩ ሰዎችም ነበሩ።BSBBSB: Then the Pharisees who had been sent
25. 25ULBእነርሱ፣ «ክርስቶስ፣ ኤልያስ ወይም ነቢዩ ካልሆንህ፣ ታዲያ ለምን ታጠምቃለህ?» ብለው ጠየቁት፡፡BSBBSB: asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26. 26ULBዮሐንስ፣ «እኔ በውሃ አጠምቃለሁ፤ ይሁን እንጂ እናንተ የማታውቁት በመካከላችሁ ቆሟል፤BSBBSB: “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands One you do not know.
27. 27ULBከእኔ በኋላ የሚመጣው እርሱ ነው፤ እኔ የጫማውን ማሰሪያ ለመፍታት እንኳ የማልበቃ ነኝ» በማለት መለሰላቸው፤BSBBSB: He is the One who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
28. 28ULBይህ ሁሉ የሆንው ዮሐንስ ሲያጠምቅ በነበረበት በዮርዳኖስ ማዶ በምትገኘው በቢታንያ ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: All this happened at Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29. 29ULBበማግስቱ ዮሐንስ ኢየሱስ ወደ እርሱ ሲመጣ ተመልክቶ እንዲህ አለ፤ «እነሆ፣ የዓለምን ኀጢአት የሚያስወግድ የእግዚአብሔር በግ ይኸውና!BSBBSB: The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30. 30ULB'ከእኔ በኋላ የሚመጣው ከእኔ በፊት ስለ ነበረ ከእኔ ይበልጣል' ብዬ ስለ እርሱ የነገርኋችሁ እርሱ ነው፡፡BSBBSB: This is He of whom I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’
31. 31ULBእኔ አላወቅሁትም ነበር፤ ነገር ግን እርሱ ለእስራኤል ይገለጥ ዘንድ እኔ በውሃ እያጠመቅሁ መጣሁ፡፡»BSBBSB: I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that He might be revealed to Israel.”
32. 32ULBዮሐንስ እንዲህ ሲል መሰከረ፤ የእግዚአብሔር መንፈስ ከሰማይ እንደ ርግብ ሲወርድና በእርሱ ላይ ሲያርፍ አየሁ፡፡BSBBSB: Then John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and resting on Him.
33. 33ULBእኔ አላወቅሁትም ነበር፤ ነገር ግን በውሃ እንዳጠምቅ የላከኝ እርሱ፣ 'መንፈስ ሲወርድበትና ሲያርፍበት የምታየው፣ በመንፈስ ቅዱስ የሚያጠምቀው እርሱ ነው' አለኝ፡፡BSBBSB: I myself did not know Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is He who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
34. 34ULBእኔ ይህን አይቻለሁ፤ እርሱ የእግዚአብሔር ልጅ እንደ ሆነም መስክሬአለሁ፡፡»BSBBSB: I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
35. 35ULBደግሞም በማግስቱ፣ ዮሐንስ ከሁለት ደቀ መዛሙርቱ ጋር ቆሞ ሳለ፣BSBBSB: The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
36. 36ULBኢየሱስን በአጠገባቸው ሲያልፍ አዩት፤ ዮሐንስም፣ «እነሆ፣ የእግዚአብሔር በግ» አለ፡፡BSBBSB: When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37. 37ULBሁለቱ ደቀ መዛሙርት፣ ዮሐንስ ይህን ሲናገር ሰምተው ኢየሱስን ተከተሉት፤BSBBSB: And when the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
38. 38ULBከዚያም ኢየሱስ መለስ ብሎ ሲከተሉት አየና፣ «ምን ትፈልጋላችሁ?» አላቸው፡፡ እነርሱ፣ «ረቢ የት ነው የምትኖረው?» አሉት። ረቢ ማለት 'መምህር' ማለት ነው።BSBBSB: Jesus turned and saw them following. “What do you want?” He asked. They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are You staying?”
39. 39ULBእርሱ፣ «ኑና እዩ» አላቸው፡፡ ከዚያም እነርሱ መጥተው የሚኖርበትን አዩ፤ በዚያም ቀን ዐብረውት ዋሉ፤ ሰዓቱም ዐሥረኛው ሰዓት ያህል ሆኖ ነበርና፡፡BSBBSB: “Come and see,” He replied. So they went and saw where He was staying, and spent that day with Him. It was about the tenth hour.
40. 40ULBዮሐንስ ሲናገር ሰምተው ኢየሱስን ከተከተሉት ከሁለቱ አንዱ የስምዖን ጴጥሮስ ወንድም እንድርያስ ነበረ፡፡BSBBSB: Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John’s testimony and followed Jesus.
41. 41ULBእርሱ በመጀመሪያ የራሱን ወንድም ጴጥሮስን አገኘውና፣ «መሲሑን አግኝተነዋል» አለው። መሲሕ 'ክርስቶስ ማለት ነው'፡፡BSBBSB: He first found his brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated as Christ).
42. 42ULBወደ ኢየሱስም አመጣው፡፡ ኢየሱስ ጴጥሮስን ተመለከተውና፣ «አንተ የዮና ልጅ ስምዖን ነህ፤ ኬፋ ትባላለህ» አለው። ኬፋ 'ጴጥሮስ ማለት ነው'፡፡BSBBSB: Andrew brought him to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which is translated as Peter).
43. 43ULBበማግስቱ፣ ኢየሱስ ወደ ገሊላ ሊሄድ በፈለገ ጊዜ፣ ፊልጶስን አግኝቶ፣ «ተከተለኝ» አለው፡፡BSBBSB: The next day Jesus decided to set out for Galilee. Finding Philip, He told him, “Follow Me.”
44. 44ULBፊልጶስም ጴጥሮስና እንድርያስ ከሚኖሩበት ከተማ ከቤተ ሳይዳ ነበር፡፡BSBBSB: Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the same town as Andrew and Peter.
45. 45ULBፊልጶስ ናትናኤልን አገኘውና፣ «ሙሴ በሕግ፣ ነቢያትም በትንቢት የጻፉለትን የዮሴፍን ልጅ የናዝሬቱን ኢየሱስ አግኝተነዋል» አለው፡፡BSBBSB: Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law, the One the prophets foretold—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46. 46ULBናትናኤል፣ «ከናዝሬት መልካም ነገር ይወጣልን?» አለው፡፡ ፊልጶስም መጥተህ እይ አለው፡፡BSBBSB: “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.
47. 47ULBኢየሱስ፣ ናትናኤል ወደ እርሱ ሲመጣ አይቶ ስለ እርሱ፣ «እነሆ፣ ተንኰል የሌለበት እውነተኛ እስራኤላዊ!» አለ።BSBBSB: When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, He said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.”
48. 48ULBናትናኤል፣ «እንዴት ታውቀኛለህ?» አለው፡፡ኢየሱስም፣ «ገና ፊልጶስ ሳይጠራህ ከበለስ ዛፍ ሥር ሳለህ አየሁህ» ብሎ መለሰለት፡፡BSBBSB: “How do You know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
49. 49ULBናትናኤል፣ «አንተ የእግዚአብሔር ልጅ ነህ፤ አንተ የእስራኤል ንጉሥ ነህ!» ብሎ መለሰለት፡፡BSBBSB: “Rabbi,” Nathanael answered, “You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
50. 50ULBኢየሱስ፣ «ከበለስ ዛፍ ሥር ሳለህ አየሁህ ስላልሁህ አመንህን? ገና ከዚህ የሚበልጡ ነገሮችን ታያለህ» ብሎ መለሰለት፡፡BSBBSB: Jesus said to him, “Do you believe just because I told you I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.”
51. 51ULBኢየሱስ፣ «እውነት፣ እውነት እላችኋለሁ፣ ሰማያት ሲከፈቱ መላእክትም በሰው ልጅ ላይ ሲወጡና ሲወርዱ ታያላችሁ» አለ፡፡BSBBSB: Then He declared, “Truly, truly, I tell you, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
