But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.
CPDV Because of this, I also did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant shall be healed. BSB BSB: That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to You. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
CPDV For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” BSB BSB: For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes, and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”
CPDV And upon hearing this, Jesus was amazed. And turning to the multitude following him, he said, “Amen I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.” BSB BSB: When Jesus heard this, He marveled at the centurion. Turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”
CPDV And those who had been sent, upon returning to the house, found that the servant, who had been sick, was now healthy. BSB BSB: And when the messengers returned to the house, they found the servant in good health.

CPDV And this word about him went out to all of Judea and to the entire surrounding region. BSB BSB: And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding region.

CPDV And the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. BSB BSB: Then John’s disciples informed him about all these things.
CPDV And John called two of his disciples, and he sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?” BSB BSB: So John called two of his disciples and sent them to ask the Lord, “Are You the One who was to come, or should we look for someone else?”
CPDV But when the men had come to him, they said: “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying: ‘Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?’ ” BSB BSB: When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are You the One who was to come, or should we look for someone else?’”
CPDV Now in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases and wounds and evil spirits; and to many of the blind, he gave sight. BSB BSB: At that very hour Jesus healed many people of their diseases, afflictions, and evil spirits, and He gave sight to many who were blind.
CPDV And responding, he said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized. BSB BSB: So He replied, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.

BSB BSB: After John’s messengers had left, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?
CPDV Then what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in costly apparel and finery are in the houses of kings. BSB BSB: Otherwise, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Look, those who wear elegant clothing and live in luxury are found in palaces.
CPDV Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Certainly, I tell you, and more than a prophet. BSB BSB: What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
CPDV This is he of whom it is written: “Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.” BSB BSB: This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Behold, I will send My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way before You.’
CPDV For I say to you, among those born of women, no one is greater than the prophet John the Baptist. 29 CPDV And upon hearing this, all the people and the tax collectors justified God, by being baptized with the baptism of John. BSB BSB: All the people who heard this, even the tax collectors, acknowledged God’s justice. For they had received the baptism of John.

CPDV They are like children sitting in the marketplace, talking with one another, and saying: ‘We sang to you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not weep.’ BSB BSB: They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to one another: ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’
CPDV For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ BSB BSB: For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’
CPDV The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a voracious man and a drinker of wine, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners.’ BSB BSB: The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at this glutton and drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
CPDV But wisdom is justified by all her children.” BSB BSB: But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
A Sinful Woman Anoints Jesus (Matthew 26:6–13; Mark 14:3–9; John 12:1–8)

BSB BSB: As she stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears and wipe them with her hair. Then she kissed His feet and anointed them with the perfume.
CPDV Then the Pharisee, who had invited him, upon seeing this, spoke within himself, saying, “This man, if he were a prophet, would certainly know who and what kind of woman is this, who is touching him: that she is a sinner.” BSB BSB: When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know who this is and what kind of woman is touching Him—for she is a sinner!”
CPDV And in response, Jesus said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Speak, Teacher.” BSB BSB: But Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, Teacher,” he said.

CPDV And since they did not have the ability to repay him, he forgave them both. So then, which of them loves him more?” BSB BSB: When they were unable to repay him, he forgave both of them. Which one, then, will love him more?”
CPDV In response, Simon said, “I suppose that it is he to whom he forgave the most.” And he said to him, “You have judged correctly.” BSB BSB: “I suppose the one who was forgiven more,” Simon replied. “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
CPDV And turning to the woman, he said to Simon: “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You gave me no water for my feet. But she has washed my feet with tears, and has wiped them with her hair. BSB BSB: And turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give Me water for My feet, but she wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
CPDV You gave no kiss to me. But she, from the time that she entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet. BSB BSB: You did not greet Me with a kiss, but she has not stopped kissing My feet since I arrived.
CPDV You did not anoint my head with oil. But she has anointed my feet with ointment. BSB BSB: You did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume.
CPDV Because of this, I tell you: many sins are forgiven her, because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven less, loves less.” BSB BSB: Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven, for she has loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”
CPDV Then he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven you.” BSB BSB: Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
CPDV And those who sat at table with him began to say within themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” BSB BSB: But those at the table began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
CPDV Then he said to the woman: “Your faith has brought you salvation. Go in peace.” BSB BSB: And Jesus told the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
