The Sons of Israel (Genesis 35:21–26; Genesis 38:1–30)
1 DRA And these are the sons of Israel: Ruben, Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issachar, and Zabulon, BSB BSB: These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
2 DRA Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Nephtali, Gad, and Aser. BSB BSB: Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
3 DRA The sons of Juda: Her, Onan and Sela. These three were born to him of the Chanaanitess the daughter of Sue. And Her the firstborn of Juda, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he slew him. BSB BSB: The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanite. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death.
4 DRA And Thamar his daughter in law bore him Phares and Zara. So all the sons of Juda were five. BSB BSB: Tamar, Judah’s daughter-in-law, bore to him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.
5 DRA And the sons of Phares, were Hesron and Hamul. BSB BSB: The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
6 DRA And the sons also of Zare: Zamri, and Ethan, and Eman, and Chalchal, and Dara, five in all. BSB BSB: The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara—five in all.
7 DRA And the sons of a Charmi: Achar, who troubled Israel, and sinned by the theft of the anathema. BSB BSB: The son of Carmi: Achar, who brought trouble upon Israel by violating the ban on devoted things.
8 DRA The sons of Ethan: Azarias, BSB BSB: The son of Ethan: Azariah.
9 DRA And the sons of Hesron that were born to him: Jerameel, and Ram, and Calubi. BSB BSB: The sons who were born to Hezron: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.
10 DRA And Ram beget Aminadab, and Aminadab beget Nahasson, prince of the children of Juda. BSB BSB: Ram was the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of the descendants of Judah.
11 DRA And Nahasson beget Salma, the father of Boot. BSB BSB: Nahshon was the father of Salmon, and Salmon was the father of Boaz.
12 DRA And Boot beget Obed, and Obed beget Isai. BSB BSB: Boaz was the father of Obed, and Obed was the father of Jesse.
13 DRA And Isai beget Eliab his firstborn, the second Abinadab, the third Simmaa, BSB BSB: Jesse was the father of Eliab his firstborn; Abinadab was born second, Shimea third,
14 DRA The fourth, Nathanael, the fifth Raddai, BSB BSB: Nethanel fourth, Raddai fifth,
15 DRA The sixth Asom, the seventh David. BSB BSB: Ozem sixth, and David seventh.
16 DRA And their sisters were Sarvia, and Abigail. The sons of Sarvia: Abisai, Joab, and Asael, three. BSB BSB: Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the three sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel.
17 DRA And Abigail bore Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ismahelite. BSB BSB: Abigail was the mother of Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
18 DRA And Caleb the son of Hesron took a wife named Azuba, of whom he had Jerioth: and her sons were Jaser, and Sobab, and Ardon. BSB BSB: Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth. These were the sons of Azubah: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
19 DRA And when Azuba was dead, Caleb took to wife Ephrata: who bore him Hur. BSB BSB: When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore to him Hur.
20 DRA And Hur beget Uri: and Uri beget Bezeleel. BSB BSB: Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri was the father of Bezalel.
21 DRA And afterwards Hesron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Galaad, and took her to wife when he was threescore years old: and she bore him Segub. BSB BSB: Later, Hezron slept with the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead. He had married her when he was sixty years old, and she bore to him Segub.
22 DRA And Segub beget Jair, and he had three and twenty cities in the land of Galaad. BSB BSB: Segub was the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.
23 DRA And he took Gessur, and Aram the towns of Jair, and Canath, and the villages thereof, threescore cities. All these, the sons of Machir father of Galaad. BSB BSB: But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth-jair, along with Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages. All these were descendants of Machir the father of Gilead.
24 DRA And when Hesron was dead, Caleb went in to Ephrata. Hesron also had to wife Abia who bore him Ashur the father of Thecua. BSB BSB: After Hezron died in Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah bore to him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.
25 DRA And the sons of Jerameel the firstborn of Hesron, were Ram his firstborn, and Buna, and Aram, and Asom, and Achia. BSB BSB: The sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron: Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
26 DRA And Jerameel married another wife, named Atara, who was the mother of Onam. BSB BSB: Jerahmeel had another wife named Atarah, who was the mother of Onam.
27 DRA And the sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerameel, were Moos, Jamin, and Achar. BSB BSB: The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28 DRA And Onam had sons Semei, and Jada. And the sons of Semei: Nadab, and Abisur. BSB BSB: The sons of Onam: Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur.
29 DRA And the name of Abisur’s wife was Abihail, who bore him Ahobban, and Molid. BSB BSB: Abishur’s wife was named Abihail, and she bore to him Ahban and Molid.
30 DRA And the sons of Nadab were Saled, and Apphaim. And Saled died without children. BSB BSB: The sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children.
31 DRA But the son of Apphaim was Jesi: and Jesi beget Sesan. And Sesan beget Oholai. BSB BSB: The son of Appaim: Ishi. The son of Ishi: Sheshan. The son of Sheshan: Ahlai.
32 DRA And the sons of Jada the brother of Semei: Jether and Jonathan. And Jether also died without children. BSB BSB: The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai: Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children.
33 DRA But Jonathan beget Phaleth, and Ziza, These were the sons of Jerameel. BSB BSB: The sons of Jonathan: Peleth and Zaza. These were the descendants of Jerahmeel.
34 DRA And Sesan had no sons, but daughters and a servant an Egyptian, named Jeraa. BSB BSB: Sheshan had no sons, but only daughters. He also had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.
35 DRA And he gave him his daughter to wife: and she bore him Ethei. BSB BSB: Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore to him Attai.
36 DRA And Ethei begot Nathan, and Nathan beget Zabad. BSB BSB: Attai was the father of Nathan, Nathan was the father of Zabad,
37 DRA And Zabad beget Ophlal, and Ophlal beget Obed. BSB BSB: Zabad was the father of Ephlal, Ephlal was the father of Obed,
38 DRA Obed beget Jehu, Jehu beget Azarias. BSB BSB: Obed was the father of Jehu, Jehu was the father of Azariah,
39 DRA Azarias beget Helles, and Helles begot Elasa. BSB BSB: Azariah was the father of Helez, Helez was the father of Elasah,
40 DRA Elasa beget Sisamoi, Sisamoi beget Sellum, BSB BSB: Elasah was the father of Sismai, Sismai was the father of Shallum,
41 DRA Sellum beget Icamia, and Icamia begot Elisama. BSB BSB: Shallum was the father of Jekamiah, and Jekamiah was the father of Elishama.
42 DRA Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerameel were Mesa his firstborn, who was the father of Siph: and the sons of Maresa father of Hebron. BSB BSB: The sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel: Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and Mareshah his second son, who was the father of Hebron.
43 DRA And the sons of Hebron, Core, and Thaphua, and Recem, and Samma. BSB BSB: The sons of Hebron: Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44 DRA And Samma beget Raham, the father of Jercaam, and Recem beget Sammai. BSB BSB: Shema was the father of Raham the father of Jorkeam, and Rekem was the father of Shammai.
45 DRA The son of Sammai, Maon: and Maon the father of Bethsur. BSB BSB: The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth-zur.
46 DRA And Epha the concubine of Caleb bore Haran, and Mesa, and Gezez. And Haran beget Gezez. BSB BSB: Caleb’s concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.
47 DRA And the sons of Jahaddai, Rogom, and Joathan, and Gesan, and Phalet, and Epha, and Saaph. BSB BSB: The sons of Jahdai: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48 DRA And Maacha the concubine of Caleb bore Saber, and Tharana. BSB BSB: Caleb’s concubine Maacah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah.
49 DRA And Saaph the father of Madmena beget Sue the father of Machbena, and the father of Gabaa. And the daughter of Caleb was Achsa. BSB BSB: She was also the mother of Shaaph father of Madmannah, and of Sheva father of Machbenah and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Acsah.
50 DRA These were the sons of Caleb, the son of Hur the firstborn of Ephrata, Sobal the father of Cariathiarim. BSB BSB: These were the descendants of Caleb. The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah: Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,
51 DRA Salma the father of Bethlehem, Hariph the father of Bethgader. BSB BSB: Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.
52 DRA And Sobal the father of Cariathiarim had sons: he that saw half of the places of rest. BSB BSB: These were the descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim: Haroeh, half the Manahathites,
53 DRA And of the kindred of Cariathiarim, the Jethrites, and Aphuthites, and Semathites, and Maserites. Of them came the Saraites, and Esthaolites. BSB BSB: and the clans of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. From these descended the Zorathites and Eshtaolites.
54 DRA The sons of Salma, Bethlehem, and Netophathi, the crowns of the house of Joab, and half of the place of rest of Sarai. BSB BSB: The descendants of Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites,
55 DRA And the families of the scribes that dwell in Jabes, singing and making melody, and abiding in tents. These are the Cinites, who came of Calor (Chamath) father of the house of Rechab, BSB BSB: and the clans of the scribes who lived at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.
