Psalm 129 129 Psalms Book 5 unfoldingWord® Simplified Text The Cords of the Wicked 1 UST A psalm for people going up to the temple to worship. Ever since I was young, my enemies have oppressed me frequently. All of the people of Israel should say this{ with me}: BSB BSB: A song of ascents. Many a time they have persecuted me from my youth—let Israel now declare—
UST Ever since I was young, my enemies have oppressed me frequently, but they have never defeated me! BSB BSB: many a time they have persecuted me from my youth, but they have not prevailed against me.
UST { They oppressed me severely as though} they were plowing across my back, making long wounds like furrows in a field. BSB BSB: The plowmen plowed over my back; they made their furrows long.
UST Yahweh does what is right; he no longer allows wicked people to control me. BSB BSB: The LORD is righteous; He has cut me from the cords of the wicked.
UST May everyone who hates the people of Zion be ashamed and go away. BSB BSB: May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.
UST May they be{ as insignificant} as the grass that grows on the rooftops that dries up before anyone can pull it out, BSB BSB: May they be like grass on the rooftops, which withers before it can grow,
UST that no harvester would{ bother to} pick up and that no one gathering bundles would{ want to} wrap his arms around{ to tie it up}. BSB BSB: unable to fill the hands of the reaper, or the arms of the binder of sheaves.
UST They will never hear someone walking by{ the reapers} say,“May Yahweh bless you!”{ They will not hear the reapers reply,}“We bless you as representatives of Yahweh.” BSB BSB: May none who pass by say to them, “The blessing of the LORD be on you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.”
