Gumiin sun maraa ammoo lafa irra qarqara abbaayaa sanii dhaabbatteertiiyyu.Once again Jesus began to teach beside the sea, and such a large crowd gathered around Him that He got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people crowded along the shore.

2Yesuus waan hedduu isaan barsiisiisaaf itti mammaakee:And He taught them many things in parables, and in His teaching He said,

3«Caqasa'a! Namichi tokko midhaan facaasu'uuf baye.“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.

4Adoo inni facaasuu, midhaan gariin karaa qarqara harca'e; sinbirreelle dhuttee qocattee nyaatte.And as he was sowing, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it.

5Gariin ammoo lafa dhakittii, lafa biyyee guddoo hin qanne irra harca'e; lafi inni irra harca'e biyyee gad fageenna waan hin qanneef ariifatee mudhe.Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow.

6Yennaa aduun itti baate ammoo qoore; hidda gad fago'oo waan hin qanneef goge.But when the sun rose, the seedlings were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

7Gariin qoree keessa harca'e; qoreelle guddattee isa huute; innille midhaan hin buune.Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the seedlings, and they yielded no crop.

8Gariin ammoo biyyee dansaa keessa harca'e; innille mudhee, guddatee, midhaan buuse: gariin midhaan soddoma, gariin midhaan jaatama, gariin midhaan dhibba buuse!» jedhe.Still other seed fell on good soil, where it sprouted, grew up, and produced a crop—one bearing thirtyfold, another sixtyfold, and another a hundredfold.”

9Achiin duuba Yesuus, «Gurra dhage'u ka qabu dhage'uu ti» jedhe.Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

11Yesuus deebisee, «Dhossaan mootummaa Waaqaa isiniif kennanteerti; worra ala jiruuf ammoo wonni maraa mammaassaan himama.He replied, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to those on the outside everything is expressed in parables,

12Wonni himamuufille, «‹Isaan ilaalanee ilaalaneelle, ijjumaa akka hin dhaggine; dhage'anee dhage'aneelle, ijjumaa akka hin hubanne; gara Waaqaa deebi'anee innille isaaniif akka hin araaranneefii› » isaaniin jedhe.so that, ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven.’”

13Achiin duuba Yesuus isaaniin, «Mammaassi kun isiniif hin galuu? Eegasuu attamiin mammaassa dhibii hubattan ree?Then Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of the parables?

14Namichi facaasu jecha Waaqaa facaasa.The farmer sows the word.

15Midhaan karaa qarqara harca'e, fakkeenna worra jecha Waaqaa akkuma dhage'aneen, Seexanni dhufee jecha dhage'ane san isaan keessaa fudhatuu ti.Some are like the seeds along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

16Midhaan lafa dhakiti'itti harca'e, fakkeenna worra jecha Waaqaa akkuma dhage'aneen gammadaan fudhatanuu ti.Some are like the seeds sown on rocky ground. They hear the word and at once receive it with joy.

17«Ammoo isaan hidda gad fago'oo hin qabanu; yenna'aaf hin dhaabbatan; sababa jecha Waaqaatiif rakkinni yookiin miidhaan yennaa ka'u yoosuma jigan.But they themselves have no root, and they remain for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

18Midhaan daggala qore'ee keessatti harca'e, fakkeenna worra jecha Waaqaa caqasuu ti.Others are like the seeds sown among the thorns. They hear the word,

19Ammoo yaaddoon waan lafa tanaa, badhaadhi durumma'aa, halchaan waan adda addaa itti seentee, jecha Waaqaa huutee midhaan adoo hin buusin hafan.but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

20Midhaan lafa dansaa keessatti harca'e ammoo, fakkeenna worra jecha Waaqaa dhage'ane fudhatanee, gariin midhaan soddoma, gariin midhaan jaatama, gariin midhaan dhibba buusanuu ti» jedhe.Still others are like the seeds sown on good soil. They hear the word, receive it, and produce a crop—thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a hundredfold.”

21Yesuus itti aansee, «Nami ifa fidee qorii jala yookiin taqee jala hin keyaa? Addee mudhatutti fannisaa motii?Jesus also said to them, “Does anyone bring in a lamp to put it under a basket or under a bed? Doesn’t he set it on a stand?

22Wonni dhokatteertu yoo jiraatte, gara mudhattutti hin baati; wonni dhossa'aa yoo jiraatte, gara ifaatitti hin baati.For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be brought to light.

23Nami gurra dhage'u qabu dhage'uu ti» isaaniin jedhe.If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

24Yesuus itti dabalee, «Waan dhageettanu qalbeeffadha'a! Waan namaaf ittiin safartanutti isinille'eef hin safarama; caalchifameelle isiniif hin kennama.He went on to say, “Pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and even more will be added to you.

25Nama wo qabuuf, itti dabalamee hin kennamaaf; nama womaa hin qanne ammoo, ka inni qabuuyyuu isa irraa hin fudhatama» isaaniin jedhe.For whoever has will be given more. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”

26Yesuus itti aansee, «Mootummaan Waaqaa nama ficha'atti midhaan facaasee fakkaatti.Jesus also said, “The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground.

27Namichi galee halkan hin rafa, guyyaa hin ka'a; midhaan sun ammoo adoo inni hin beekin mudhee guddata.Night and day he sleeps and wakes, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he knows not how.

28Biyyeen ifumaan akka midhaan latee guddatu gooti; dursee mudhee obba, itti aansee daraara, achiin duuba midhaan buusa.All by itself the earth produces a crop—first the stalk, then the head, then grain that ripens within.

29Yennaa midhaan sun bilchaate, haammaan waan geetteef, yennuma san inni haantu'uun haama» jedhe.And as soon as the grain is ripe, he swings the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

30Yesuus ammalle, «Mootummaa Waaqaa maaniin wol fakkeessina? Yookiin mammaassa kamiin isii hinna?Then He asked, “To what can we compare the kingdom of God? With what parable shall we present it?

31Isiin akka midhaan Sanaafici'ii ti. Midhaan isi'ii yennaa lafatti facaafamu midhaan biyya lafaa maraa irra hin diqqaata.It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds sown upon the earth.

32Inni yennaa facaafame, latee hin guddata; waan ficha'atti facaafame maraa irra ka caalu te'a; dameelee gugurdoo hin baasa. Sinbirreen dhuttee gaaddisa damee isaa jalatti mana ijaarratti» jedhe.But after it is planted, it grows to be the largest of all garden plants and puts forth great branches, so that the birds of the air nest in its shade.”

33Yesuus mammaassa hedduu ka kana fakkaatuun haga hubantii isaaniititti jecha isaanitti hime.With many such parables Jesus spoke the word to them, to the extent that they could understand.

34Inni mammaassaan malee isaanitti hin dubbanne; ammoo yennaa barattoota ifii woliin qofi jiru, waan maraa isaanii hiike.He did not tell them anything without using a parable. But privately He explained everything to His own disciples.

35Yesuus gaafuma san galgala barattoota ifiitiin, «Ka'aa, gara abbaaya'aan gamaa buunaa» jedhe.When that evening came, He said to His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side.”

36Barattooti isaa gumii achi jirtu lakkisanee, akkuma inni duraanuu hoboloo keessa tee'eeruun Yesuus fuudhanee deemane; hobolooti dhibiille woliin deemane.After they had dismissed the crowd, they took Jesus with them, since He was already in the boat. And there were other boats with Him.

37Dedhuma bubbeen bubbittee, danbaliin bisaanii hobolo'otti dhangalaatee guutiisa geette.Soon a violent windstorm came up, and the waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was being swamped.

38Yesuus hoboloo san keessa gara duubaatiin boraafatee rafeeraayyu. Barattooti isaa isa dammassanee, «Barsiisa'a! Yoo nu dhumannu womaa si hin dhibuu!» jedhane.But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the cushion. So they woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are perishing?”

39Yesuus dammaqee bubbee saniin, «Cadhisi!» jedhee xixe. Danbalii bisaaniitille'een, «Sarmi!» jedhe. Bubbeen cadhinnaan, cadheessi guddaan te'e.Then Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. “Silence!” He commanded. “Be still!” And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm.

40Achiin duuba barattoota ifiitiin, «Maaf guddoo sodaattane? Haga ammaa dhugeeffannaa hin qaddanuu?» jedhe.“Why are you so afraid?” He asked. “Do you still have no faith?”

41Isaan ammoo guddoo sodaatanee, «Ka bubbe'ee fi danbaliille isaaf ajajamanu kun eennu inni?» woliin jedhane.Overwhelmed with fear, they asked one another, “Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”
