Numbers 32 (LXX)

1ΚΑΙ κτήνη πλῆθος ἦν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ρουβὴν καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γάδ, πλῆθος σφόδρα· καὶ εἶδον τὴν χώραν Ἰαζὴρ καὶ τὴν χώραν Γαλαάδ, καὶ ἦν ὁ τόπος τόπος κτήνεσι.Now the Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, surveyed the lands of Jazer and Gilead, and they saw that the region was suitable for livestock.

2καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ εἶπαν πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ πρὸς Ἐλεάζαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῆς συναγωγῆς λέγοντες·So the Gadites and Reubenites came to Moses, Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of the congregation, and said,

3Ἀταρὼθ καὶ Δαιβὼν καὶ Ἰαζὴρ καὶ Ναμρὰ καὶ Ἐσεβών, καὶ Ἐλεαλὴ καὶ Σεβαμὰ καὶ Ναβαὺ καὶ Βαιάν,“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,

4τὴν γῆν ἣν παραδέδωκε Κύριος ἐνώπιον τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, γῆ κτηνοτρόφος ἐστί, καὶ τοῖς παισί σου κτήνη ὑπάρχει.which the LORD conquered before the congregation of Israel, are suitable for livestock—and your servants have livestock.”

5καὶ ἔλεγον· εἰ εὕρομεν χάριν ἐνώπιόν σου, δοθήτω ἡ γῆ αὕτη τοῖς οἰκέταις σου ἐν κατασχέσει, καὶ μὴ διαβιβάσῃς ἡμᾶς τὸν Ἰορδάνην.“If we have found favor in your sight,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”

6καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς τοῖς υἱοῖς Γὰδ καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ρουβήν· οἱ ἀδελφοὶ ὑμῶν πορεύονται εἰς τὸν πόλεμον, καὶ ὑμεῖς καθήσεσθε αὐτοῦ;But Moses asked the Gadites and Reubenites, “Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here?

7καὶ ἱνατί διαστρέφετε τὰς διανοίας τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ μὴ διαβῆναι εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν Κύριος δίδωσιν αὐτοῖς;Why are you discouraging the Israelites from crossing into the land that the LORD has given them?

8οὐχ οὕτως ἐποίησαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν, ὅτε ἀπέστειλα αὐτοὺς ἐκ Κάδης Βαρνὴ κατανοῆσαι τὴν γῆν;This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to inspect the land.

9καὶ ἀνέβησαν Φάραγγα βότρυος καὶ κατενόησαν τὴν γῆν καὶ ἀπέστησαν τὴν καρδίαν τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, ὅπως μὴ εἰσέλθωσιν εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ἔδωκε Κύριος αὐτοῖς.For when your fathers went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land that the LORD had given them.

10καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ Κύριος ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ὤμοσε λέγων·So the anger of the LORD was kindled that day, and He swore an oath, saying,

11εἰ ὄψονται οἱ ἄνθρωποι οὗτοι οἱ ἀναβάντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω, οἱ ἐπιστάμενοι τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ τὸ κακόν, τὴν γῆν ἣν ὤμοσα τῷ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακώβ, οὐ γὰρ συνεπηκολούθησαν ὀπίσω μου,‘Because they did not follow Me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years of age or older who came out of Egypt will see the land that I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—

12πλὴν Χάλεβ υἱὸς Ἰεφοννὴ ὁ διακεχωρισμένος καὶ Ἰησοῦς ὁ τοῦ Ναυή, ὅτι συνεπηκολούθησαν ὀπίσω Κυρίου.not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun—because they did follow the LORD wholeheartedly.’

13καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ Κύριος ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ κατερρόμβευσεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη, ἕως ἐξανηλώθη πᾶσα ἡ γενεὰ οἱ ποιοῦντες τὰ πονηρὰ ἔναντι Κυρίου.The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation who had done evil in His sight was gone.

14ἰδοὺ ἀνέστητε ἀντὶ τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν, σύντριμμα ἀνθρώπων ἁμαρτωλῶν, προσθεῖναι ἔτι ἐπὶ τὸν θυμὸν τῆς ὀργῆς Κυρίου ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ,Now behold, you, a brood of sinners, have risen up in place of your fathers to further stoke the burning anger of the LORD against Israel.

15ὅτι ἀποστραφήσεσθε ἀπ' αὐτοῦ προσθεῖναι ἔτι καταλιπεῖν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ ἀνομήσετε εἰς ὅλην τὴν συναγωγὴν ταύτην.For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”

16καὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ καὶ ἔλεγον· ἐπαύλεις προβάτων οἰκοδομήσομεν ὧδε τοῖς κτήνεσιν ἡμῶν καὶ πόλεις ταῖς ἀποσκευαῖς ἡμῶν,Then the Gadites and Reubenites approached Moses and said, “We want to build sheepfolds here for our livestock and cities for our little ones.

17καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐνοπλισάμενοι προφυλακὴν πρότεροι τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, ἕως ἂν ἀγάγωμεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸν ἑαυτῶν τόπον· καὶ κατοικήσει ἡ ἀποσκευὴ ἡμῶν ἐν πόλεσι τετειχισμέναις διὰ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν γῆν.But we will arm ourselves and be ready to go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them into their place. Meanwhile, our little ones will remain in the fortified cities for protection from the inhabitants of the land.

18οὐ μὴ ἀποστραφῶμεν εἰς τὰς οἰκίας ἡμῶν, ἕως ἂν καταμερισθῶσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραήλ, ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ·We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has taken possession of his inheritance.

19καὶ οὐκέτι κληρονομήσομεν ἐν αὐτοῖς ἀπὸ τοῦ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου καὶ ἐπέκεινα, ὅτι ἀπέχομεν τοὺς κλήρους ἡμῶν ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου ἐν ἀνατολαῖς.Yet we will not have an inheritance with them across the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.”

20καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς· ἐὰν ποιήσητε κατὰ τὸ ρῆμα τοῦτο, ἐὰν ἐξοπλίσησθε ἔναντι Κυρίου εἰς πόλεμονMoses replied, “If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the LORD for battle,

21καὶ παρελεύσεται ὑμῶν πᾶς ὁπλίτης τὸν Ἰορδάνην ἔναντι Κυρίου, ἕως ἂν ἐκτριβῇ ὁ ἐχθρὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦand if every one of your armed men crosses the Jordan before the LORD, until He has driven His enemies out before Him,

22καὶ κατακυριευθῇ ἡ γῆ ἔναντι Κυρίου, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἀποστραφήσεσθε, καὶ ἔσεσθε ἀθῷοι ἔναντι Κυρίου καὶ ἀπὸ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἔσται ἡ γῆ αὕτη ὑμῖν ἐν κατασχέσει ἔναντι Κυρίου.then when the land is subdued before the LORD, you may return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel. And this land will belong to you as a possession before the LORD.

23ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ποιήσητε οὕτως, ἁμαρτήσεσθε ἔναντι Κυρίου καὶ γνώσεσθε τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ὑμῶν, ὅταν ὑμᾶς καταλάβῃ τὰ κακά.But if you do not do this, you will certainly sin against the LORD—and be assured that your sin will find you out.

24καὶ οἰκοδομήσετε ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς πόλεις τῇ ἀποσκευῇ ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπαύλεις τοῖς κτήνεσιν ὑμῶν καὶ τὸ ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκ τοῦ στόματος ὑμῶν ποιήσετε.Build cities for your little ones and folds for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”

25καὶ εἶπαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ υἱοὶ Γὰδ πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγοντες· οἱ παῖδές σου ποιήσουσι καθὰ ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν ἐντέλλεται·The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, “Your servants will do just as our lord commands.

26ἡ ἀποσκευὴ ἡμῶν καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες ἡμῶν καὶ πάντα τὰ κτήνη ἡμῶν ἔσονται ἐν ταῖς πόλεσι Γαλαάδ,Our children, our wives, our livestock, and all our animals will remain here in the cities of Gilead.

27οἱ δὲ παῖδές σου παρελεύσονται πάντες ἐνωπλισμένοι καὶ ἐκτεταγμένοι ἔναντι Κυρίου εἰς τὸν πόλεμον, ὃν τρόπον ὁ Κύριος λέγει.But your servants are equipped for war, and every man will cross over to the battle before the LORD, just as our lord says.”

28καὶ συνέστησεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς Ἐλεάζαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ Ἰησοῦν υἱὸν Ναυὴ καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας πατριῶν τῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ,So Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the family leaders of the tribes of Israel.

29καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτοὺς Μωυσῆς· ἐὰν διαβῶσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ μεθ' ὑμῶν τὸν Ἰορδάνην, πᾶς ἐνωπλισμένος εἰς πόλεμον ἔναντι Κυρίου, καὶ κατακυριεύσητε τῆς γῆς ἀπέναντι ὑμῶν, καὶ δώσετε αὐτοῖς τὴν γῆν Γαλαὰδ ἐν κατασχέσει·And Moses said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites cross the Jordan with you, with every man armed for battle before the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, then you are to give them the land of Gilead as a possession.

30ἐὰν δὲ μὴ διαβῶσιν ἐνωπλισμένοι μεθ' ὑμῶν εἰς τὸν πόλεμον ἔναντι Κυρίου, καὶ διαβιβάσετε τὴν ἀποσκευὴν αὐτῶν καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν πρότερα ὑμῶν εἰς γῆν Χαναάν, καὶ συγκατακληρονομηθήσονται ἐν ὑμῖν ἐν τῇ γῇ Χαναάν.But if they do not arm themselves and go across with you, then they must accept their possession among you in the land of Canaan.”

31καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ λέγοντες· ὅσα ὁ Κύριος λέγει τοῖς θεράπουσιν, οὕτω ποιήσωμεν ἡμεῖς·The Gadites and Reubenites replied, “As the LORD has spoken to your servants, so we will do.

32διαβησόμεθα ἐνωπλισμένοι ἔναντι Κυρίου εἰς γῆν Χαναάν, καὶ δώσετε τὴν κατάσχεσιν ἡμῖν ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου.We will cross over into the land of Canaan armed before the LORD, that we may have our inheritance on this side of the Jordan.”

33καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς τοῖς υἱοῖς Γὰδ καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ρουβὴν καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασσῆ υἱῶν Ἰωσήφ, τὴν βασιλείαν Σηὼν βασιλέως Ἀμορραίων καὶ τὴν βασιλείαν Ὢγ βασιλέως τῆς Βασάν, τὴν γῆν καὶ τὰς πόλεις σὺν τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῆς, πόλεις τῆς γῆς κύκλῳ.So Moses gave to the Gadites, to the Reubenites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan—the land including its cities and the territory surrounding them.

34Καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ τὴν Δαιβὼν καὶ τὴν Ἀταρὼθ καὶ τὴν ἈροὴρAnd the Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,

35καὶ τὴν Σοφὰρ καὶ τὴν Ἰαζὴρ καὶ ὕψωσαν αὐτάς,Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,

36καὶ τὴν Ναμρὰμ καὶ τὴν Βαιθαράν, πόλεις ὀχυρὰς καὶ ἐπαύλεις προβάτων.Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran as fortified cities, and they built folds for their flocks.

37καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν ᾠκοδόμησαν τὴν Ἐσεβὼν καὶ Ἐλεάλην καὶ ΚαριαθὰμThe Reubenites built up Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,

38καὶ τὴν Βεελμεών, περικεκυκλωμένας, καὶ τὴν Σεβαμὰ καὶ ἐπωνόμασαν κατὰ τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν πόλεων, ἃς ᾠκοδόμησαν.as well as Nebo and Baal-meon (whose names were changed), and Sibmah. And they renamed the cities they rebuilt.

39καὶ ἐπορεύθη υἱὸς Μαχὶρ υἱοῦ Μανασσῆ εἰς Γαλαὰδ καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτὴν καὶ ἀπώλεσε τὸν Ἀμορραῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα ἐν αὐτῇ.The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it, and drove out the Amorites who were there.

40καὶ ἔδωκε Μωυσῆς τὴν Γαλαὰδ τῷ Μαχὶρ υἱῷ Μανασσῆ, καὶ κατῴκησεν ἐκεῖ.So Moses gave Gilead to the clan of Machir son of Manasseh, and they settled there.

41καὶ Ἰαΐρ ὁ τοῦ Μανασσῆ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἔλαβε τὰς ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν αὐτὰς Ἐπαύλεις Ἰαΐρ.Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, went and captured their villages and called them Havvoth-jair.

42καὶ Ναβαὺ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἔλαβε τὴν Καὰθ καὶ τὰς κώμας αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν αὐτὰς Ναβὼθ ἐκ τοῦ ὀνόματος αὐτοῦ.And Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.
