12 UDB एक दिन अब्नेर और ईशबोशेत के अधिकारी महनैम से होकर यरदन नदी के पार गेबोन शहर में गए। BSB BSB: One day Abner son of Ner and the servants of Ish-bosheth son of Saul marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

And the two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.

23 UDB परन्तु असाहेल ने अब्नेर का पीछा ना करने से मना कर दिया। अब्नेर ने अचानक मुड़कर और अपने भाले के कुंडे को अंत तक असाहेल के पेट में घुसेड़ दिया। क्योंकि उसने इसे बहुत दृढ़ता से घुसेड़ा, भाला का वह अंत उसके शरीर के पार चला गया और असाहेल की पीठ पर बाहर आया, और वह भूमि पर मृत गिर पड़ा। अन्य सभी सैनिक उस स्थान पर आए जहाँ उसका शरीर पड़ा हुआ था और असाहेल के शरीर के पास घबरा कर खड़े हो गए। BSB BSB: But Asahel refused to turn away. So Abner thrust the butt of his spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man paused when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.

By sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.

BSB BSB: Then Abner called out to Joab: “Must the sword devour forever? Do you not realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”

32 UDB योआब के कुछ सैनिकों ने असाहेल के शरीर को बैतलहम में उस क़ब्र में रखा जहाँ उसके पिता को रखा गया था। तब वे रात भर चलते रहे, और सुबह वे हेब्रोन में घर लौट आए। BSB BSB: And they took Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb in Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men marched all night and reached Hebron at daybreak.
