1 UDB यहोवा का दूत गिलगाल से एक स्थान पर गया जिसे इस्राएल के लोग शीघ्र ही बोकीम कहेंगे। उसने इस्राएली लोगों से कहा, "मैं तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को मिस्र से यहाँ लाया था। मैं उन्हें इस देश में ले आया था जिसे मैंने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को देने की गंभीर प्रतिज्ञा की थी। मैंने उनसे कहा था, 'मैं तुम्हारे साथ, बाँधी गई वाचा को कभी नहीं तोड़ूँगा। BSB BSB: Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I had promised to your fathers, and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you,
2 UDB परन्तु तुम्हे इस देश में रहने वाले लोगों के साथ शान्ति बनाए रखने के लिए कभी सहमत नहीं होना है। तुम उन वेदियों को तोड़ डालना जहाँ वे मूर्तियों के लिए बलि चढ़ाते हैं।' परन्तु तुमने मेरी आज्ञा का पालन नहीं किया है। BSB BSB: and you are not to make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall tear down their altars.’ Yet you have not obeyed My voice. What is this you have done?
3 UDB इसलिए अब, मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ कि जब तुम आगे बढ़ोगे तब, मैं तुम्हारे शत्रुओं को बाहर नहीं निकालूँगा। वे तुम्हारी पसलियों में काँटे के समान होंगे। और वे तुम्हे अपनी मूर्तियों की पूजा करने के लिए तुम्हे सहमत करके फँसाने का प्रयास करेंगे।" BSB BSB: So now I tell you that I will not drive out these people before you; they will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.”
4 UDB उसके ऐसा कहने के बाद सब इस्राएलियों ने, ऊँची आवाज में विलाप किया। BSB BSB: When the angel of the LORD had spoken these words to all the Israelites, the people lifted up their voices and wept.
5 UDB उन्होंने उस जगह का नाम बोकीम रखा, जिसका अर्थ है "रोना।" वहाँ उन्होंने यहोवा के लिए बलि चढ़ाई। BSB BSB: So they called that place Bochim and offered sacrifices there to the LORD.
6 UDB यहोशू से विदा लेने के बाद इस्राएलियों का प्रत्येक समूह उस क्षेत्र पर अधिकार करने के लिए चला गया जो स्थायी रूप से दिया गया था। BSB BSB: After Joshua had dismissed the people, the Israelites went out to take possession of the land, each to his own inheritance.
7 UDB यहोशू और यहोवा द्वारा किए गए महान कामों को देखनेवाले बुजुर्ग जब तक जीवित थे, इस्राएलियों ने यहोवा की आज्ञाओं को माना। BSB BSB: And the people served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him, who had seen all the great works that the LORD had done for Israel.
8 UDB तब यहोवा के दास यहोशू की मृत्यु हो जब गई। वह 110 साल का होकर मर गया। BSB BSB: And Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
9 UDB उन्होंने उनके शरीर को उस देश में दफनाया जिसे उसने मूसा से गाश पर्वत के उत्तर में तिम्नथेरेस में प्राप्त किया था, उस क्षेत्र में एप्रैम के वंशज रहते थे। BSB BSB: They buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
10 UDB यहोशू के समय के सब लोगों के मरने के बाद, अन्य लोग जो अब बड़े हो गए थे, वे यहोवा को नहीं जानते थे और उन्होंने इस्राएल के लिए किए गए यहोवा के महान कामों को नहीं देखा था। BSB BSB: After that whole generation had also been gathered to their fathers, another generation rose up who did not know the LORD or the works that He had done for Israel.
11 UDB उन्होंने वही काम किए जिनके लिए यहोवा ने कहा था कि वे बहुत बुरे हैं। उन्होंने बाल देवता और प्रजनन देवी, अश्तारोत की मूर्तियों की पूजा की। उन्होंने अपने पड़ोस के लोगों के उन विभिन्न देवताओं की पूजा की। उन्होंने अपने पुर्वजों के परमेश्वर यहोवा की आराधना करना बंद कर दिया, वही परमेश्वर जो उनके पूर्वजों को मिस्र से बाहर निकाल लाए थे। इन कामों से ने यहोवा को बहुत क्रोधित हो गए। BSB BSB: And the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals.
14 UDB क्रोध के कारण यहोवा ने अन्य समूहों के लोगों को उन पर आक्रमण करने और उनकी फसलों को और जानवरों को चुरा लेने का मार्ग खोल दिया। अब उनमें शत्रुओं का विरोध करने की शक्ति नहीं थीं, यहोवा ने उनके चारों ओर के शत्रुओं को उन्हें पराजित करने दिया। BSB BSB: Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of those who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.
15 UDB इस्राएली जब भी शत्रुओं से युद्ध करने के लिए गए, यहोवा ने सदैव उनके विरुद्ध काम किया और उन्हें शत्रुओं के हाथों पराजित करवाया उन्होंने कहा था कि वह ऐसा ही करेंगे। इसलिए इस्राएली बहुत परेशान थे। BSB BSB: Wherever Israel marched out, the hand of the LORD was against them to bring calamity, just as He had sworn to them. So they were greatly distressed.
16 UDB तब यहोवा ने उनके लिए अगुवों को खड़ा किया। इन अगुवों ने इस्राएलियों को उन लोगों से बचाया जो उन पर आक्रमण करते थे। BSB BSB: Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them.
17 UDB परन्तु इस्राएली अब भी अपने अगुवों का आज्ञा पालन नहीं किया। उन्होंने वेश्याओं के समान मूर्ति पूजा के लिए यहोवा के साथ विश्वासघात किया। वे उनके पूर्वजों के समान नहीं थे। उनके पूर्वजों ने यहोवा की आज्ञाओं का पालन किया था परन्तु इन नए लोगों ने अपने पूर्वजों का सा व्यवहार करना बंद कर दिया था। BSB BSB: Israel, however, did not listen to their judges. Instead, they prostituted themselves with other gods and bowed down to them. They quickly turned from the way of their fathers, who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments; they did not do as their fathers had done.
18 UDB जब भी यहोवा ने उनके लिए कोई अगुवा खड़ा किया तब उन्हें उनके पास लाया, तो यहोवा ने उस अगुवे की सहायता की और इस्राएलियों को शत्रुओं से बचाने के योग्य उसे किया। परमेश्वर यहोवा ने तब तक ऐसा किया जब तक कि अगुवा जीवित था। जब वे अत्याचार और कष्टों के कारण दुःख से चिल्लाए तब यहोवा ने उन पर दया की। BSB BSB: Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for the Israelites, He was with that judge and saved them from the hands of their enemies while the judge was still alive; for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning under those who oppressed them and afflicted them.
19 UDB परन्तु उस अगुवे की मृत्यु के बाद, लोग सदैव ही पूर्वजों से अधिक बुरा व्यवहार करना आरंभ कर देते थे। उन्होंने अन्य देवताओं की पूजा करते और उनके सामने झुकते थे और उन सब कामों को करते थे जो उनकी समझ में देवता चाहते थे। BSB BSB: But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
20 UDB इसलिए यहोवा इस्राएलियों से बहुत क्रोधित थे। उसने कहा, "इन लोगों ने उनके पूर्वजों के साथ बाँधी गई मेरी वाचा को तोड़ दिया है। उन्होंने वह नहीं किया है जो मैंने उन्हें करने के लिए कहा था। BSB BSB: So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed the covenant I laid down for their fathers and has not heeded My voice,
21 UDB इसलिए अब मैं उन अन्यजाति लोगों को बाहर नहीं करूँगा जिनको मृत्यु के समय यहोशू इस देश में छोड़ गया था। BSB BSB: I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died.
22 UDB मैं इस्राएलियों को परखने के लिए उनका उपयोग करूँगा कि यह देख सकूँ कि ये वही लोग करेंगे जो मैं चाहता हूँ जैसा उनके पूर्वजों ने किया था।" BSB BSB: In this way I will test whether Israel will keep the way of the LORD by walking in it as their fathers did.”
23 UDB यहोवा ने इस्राएलियों के आने के बाद लम्बे समय तक उस देश में अन्यजातियों को रहने दिया। उन्होंने यहोशू और उसके लोगों द्वारा उन्हें पराजित करके बाहर नहीं किया। BSB BSB: That is why the LORD had left those nations in place and had not driven them out immediately by delivering them into the hand of Joshua.
