1मग ईयोब उत्तर देऊन म्हणाला,Then Job answered:

2“तू जे काही म्हणत आहेस ते खरे असल्याची जाणीव मला आहे, परंतु देवापुढे मनुष्य कसा बरोबर ठरेल?“Yes, I know that it is so, but how can a mortal be righteous before God?

3मनुष्य देवाशी वाद घालू शकत नाही. देव हजार प्रश्न विचारु शकतो आणि मनुष्यास त्याच्या एकाही प्रश्नाचे उत्तर देता येत नाही.If one wished to contend with God, he could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.

4देव खूप विद्वान आहे आणि त्याची शक्ती अमर्याद आहे. देवाचे मन कठीण करून कोण निभावेल?God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has resisted Him and prospered?

5तो क्रोधित झाला की पर्वत हलवतो आणि लोकांस ते कळत देखील नाही.He moves mountains without their knowledge and overturns them in His anger.

6तो पृथ्वीचा थरकाप करण्यासाठी भूकंप पाठवतो. आणि पृथ्वीचा पायाच हलवून टाकतो.He shakes the earth from its place, so that its foundations tremble.

7तोच तो देव आहे, जो सूर्याला उगवू नये म्हणून सांगतो आणि तो उगवत नाही, आणि ताऱ्यांनी चमकू नये म्हणून तो लपवून ठेवतो.He commands the sun not to shine; He seals off the stars.

8त्याने एकट्याने आकाश निर्माण केले. तो सागराच्या लाटांवर चालतो.He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.

9देवाने सप्तर्षि, मृगश्रीष व कृत्तिका यांना निर्माण केले. दक्षिणेकडचे आकाश ओलांडणारे ग्रहही त्यानेच निर्माण केले.He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, of the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

10तोच देव आहे ज्याने आश्यर्यकारक अनाकळनधि गोष्टीही निर्मिल्या. खरोखरच देवाच्या अद्भुत कृत्यांची सीमा नाही.He does great things beyond searching out, and wonders without number.

11पाहा, देव जेव्हा माझ्या जवळून जातो तेव्हा मी त्यास बघू शकत नाही. तो जातो तरी त्याची महानता मला समजत नाही.Were He to pass by me, I would not see Him; were He to move, I would not recognize Him.

12देवाने जरी काही घेतले तरी त्यास कोणीही अडवू शकत नाही. तू काय करीत आहेस? असे त्यास कोणी विचारु शकत नाही.If He takes away, who can stop Him? Who dares to ask Him, ‘What are You doing?’

13देव त्याचा क्रोध काबूत ठेवणार नाही. राहाबाचे मदतनीससुध्दा त्यास घाबरतात.God does not restrain His anger; the helpers of Rahab cower beneath Him.

14म्हणून मी देवाशी वाद घालू शकत नाही. त्याच्याशी काय बोलावे ते मला सुचणार नाही.How then can I answer Him or choose my arguments against Him?

15मी निष्पाप आहे, पण मी त्यास उत्तर देऊ शकणार नाही. मी केवळ माझ्या देवाची कृपादृष्टी मिळावी म्हणून याचना करु शकतो.For even if I were right, I could not answer. I could only beg my Judge for mercy.

16मी हाक मारल्यानंतर त्याने उत्तर दिले असते. तरी त्याने माझे ऐकलेच अशी माझी खात्री झाली नसती.If I summoned Him and He answered me, I do not believe He would listen to my voice.

17तो मला चिरडण्यासाठी वादळे पाठवील. आणि काहीही कारण नसता तो मला जखमा देईल.For He would crush me with a tempest and multiply my wounds without cause.

18तो मला माझा श्वास परत घेऊ देणार नाही. म्हणून तो मला अधिक कष्ट देईल.He does not let me catch my breath, but overwhelms me with bitterness.

19कोण शक्तीमान आहे जर आपण बोलतो तर देव सर्वशक्तिमान आहे, आणि जर आपण न्याया विषयी बोलतो, तर त्यास न्यायालयात कोणी आणू शकेल काय?If it is a matter of strength, He is indeed mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can summon Him?

20मी धर्मी जरी असलो, माझेच मुख मला अपराधी बनवते. मी परिपूर्ण जरी असलो, तरी पण माझे बोलणेच माझी अपूर्णता प्रमाणीत करते.Even if I were righteous, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would declare me guilty.

21मी निष्पाप आहे, पण काय विचार करावा ते मला कळत नाही. मी माझ्याच आयुष्याचा धिक्कार करतो.Though I am blameless, I have no concern for myself; I despise my own life.

22मी स्वत:शीच म्हणतो: सगळ्याच्याच बाबतीत हे घडते. पापी लोकांसारखेच निष्पाप लोकही मरतात. देवच सगळ्यांचे जीवन संपवतो.It is all the same, and so I say, ‘He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.’

23काहीतरी भयानक घडते आणि निष्पाप मनुष्य मरतो तेव्हा देव त्यास फक्त हसतो का?When the scourge brings sudden death, He mocks the despair of the innocent.

24जेव्हा एखादा वाईट मनुष्य सत्ता बळकावतो तेव्हा जे घडते आहे ते बघण्यापासून देव पुढाऱ्यांना दूर ठेवतो जर नाही, तर तो कोण आहे जो असे करतो?The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He blindfolds its judges. If it is not He, then who is it?

25माझे दिवस एखाद्या धावपटू पेक्षाही वेगाने धावतात. माझे दिवस उडून जातात, त्यामध्ये कुठेहि सुख दिसत नाही.My days are swifter than a runner; they flee without seeing good.

26लव्हाळाची बनवलेली बोट जशी वेगात जाते तसे माझे दिवस वेगात सरतात. गरुडाने आपल्या भक्ष्यावर झडप घालावी त्याप्रमाणे माझे दिवस अतिशय वेगात जातात.They sweep by like boats of papyrus, like an eagle swooping down on its prey.

27मी जरी म्हणालो, की माझे दु:ख विसरेन, मी चेहऱ्यावर हास्य आणेन, मी तक्रार करणार नाही. आणि आनंदी होईल.If I were to say, ‘I will forget my complaint and change my expression and smile,’

28मला माझा दु:खाचे भय वाटायला हवे. कारण मला माहित आहे, निर्दोष गनणार नाहीस.I would still dread all my sufferings; I know that You will not acquit me.

29मी आधीच अपराधी ठरवला गेलो आहे. मग प्रयत्न तरी कशाला करायचे?Since I am already found guilty, why should I labor in vain?

30मी माझे अंग बर्फाने धुतले आणि हात साबणाने स्वच्छ केले.If I should wash myself with snow and cleanse my hands with lye,

31तरीही देव मला घाणीच्या खड्ड्यात ढकलेल. नंतर माझे स्वत:चे कपडे देखील माझा तिरस्कार करतील.then You would plunge me into the pit, and even my own clothes would despise me.

32देव माझ्यासारखा मनुष्य नाही. म्हणूनच मी त्यास उत्तर देऊ शकत नाही. आम्ही न्यायालयात एकमेकांना भेटू शकणार नाही.For He is not a man like me, that I can answer Him, that we can take each other to court.

33आमच्यात कोणी असा न्यायाधीश नाही. जो आम्हा दोघांना सारख्याच न्यायाने तोलेल.Nor is there a mediator between us, to lay his hand upon us both.

34देवाच्या शिक्षेची छडी माझ्यापासून दूर करणारा कोणी न्यायाधीश नाही त्याच्या धाकामुळे मला भयभीत होण्यापासून वाचवणारा कोणी नाही.Let Him remove His rod from me, so that His terror will no longer frighten me.

35असे जर झाले तर देवाला न घाबरता मला जे काही म्हणायचे आहे ते मी म्हणू शकेन. परंतु आता मात्र मी तसे करु शकत नाही.”Then I would speak without fear of Him. But as it is, I am on my own.
