2 UDB स्तिफनसले जवाफ दिए, “यहूदी मित्रहरू तथा आदरणीय अगुवाजनहरू, कृपया मेरा कुरा सुन्नुहोस्। हाम्रा पुर्खा अब्राहाम हारानमा आउनुअगि तिनी मेसोपोटामियाको देशमा छँदा नै हामीले आराधना गर्ने महिमाका परमेश्वर तिनीकहाँ देखा पर्नुभयो। BSB BSB: And Stephen declared: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,
3 UDB परमेश्वरले तिनलाई भन्नुभयो, “तिमी र तिम्रा आफन्तहरू बसिरहेको यस देशलाई छाडेर मैले तिमीलाई देखाउने देशमा जाऊ।” BSB BSB: and told him, ‘Leave your country and your kindred and go to the land I will show you.’
4 UDB त्यसैले, अब्राहामले कल्दी भनिने त्यस देशलाई छाडे, र तिनी हारानमा आएर बसे। तिनका पिताको मृत्युपश्चात् परमेश्वरले तिनलाई यस देशमा आउन आज्ञा दिनुभयो, जहाँ अहिले तपाईंहरू र म बसिरहेका छौँ। BSB BSB: So Abraham left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After his father died, God brought him out of that place and into this land where you are now living.
5 UDB त्यस बेला परमेश्वरले अब्राहामलाई आफ्नो सम्पत्तिको रूपमा कुनै जग्गा-जमिन दिनुभएको थिएन। उहाँले यस देशको एउटा सानो टुक्रा पनि दिनुभएन। तर पछि परमेश्वरले यो देश तिनी र तिनका सन्तानहरूलाई दिनुहुने थियो, र यो सदाको निम्ति तिनीहरूकै हुने थियो भनी प्रतिज्ञा गर्नुभयो। तथापि त्यस बेला यस देशलाई पैतृक सम्पत्तिको रूपमा अधिकार गर्नलाई अब्राहामको कुनै सन्तान थिएन। BSB BSB: He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground. But God promised to give possession of the land to Abraham and his descendants, even though he did not yet have a child.
6 UDB पछि परमेश्वरले अब्राहामलाई भन्नुभयो, “तिम्रा सन्तानहरू त्यस विदेशी मुलुकमा जानेछन्, र त्यहीँ बसोबास गर्नेछन्। त्यहाँ तिनीहरू चार सय वर्षसम्म बस्नेछन्। त्यस बेला तिनीहरूका अगुवाहरूले तिम्रा सन्तानहरूलाई दुर्व्यवहार गर्नेछन्, र कमाराको रूपमा काम गर्न बाध्य पार्नेछन्। BSB BSB: God told him that his descendants would be foreigners in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.
7 UDB तर तिनीहरूलाई कमारा तुल्याउने ती मानिसहरूलाई म दण्ड दिनेछु। त्यसपछि तिम्रा सन्तानहरू त्यस देशबाट निस्केर आउनेछन्, र तिनीहरू यहाँ आई तिनीहरूले मेरो आराधना गर्नेछन्।” BSB BSB: ‘But I will punish the nation that enslaves them,’ God said, ‘and afterward they will come forth and worship Me in this place.’
8 UDB तब परमेश्वरले अब्राहामको घराना र तिनको वंशमा जन्मने सबै पुरुषहरूको खतना गर्न आज्ञा दिए। खतनाले तिनीहरू परमेश्वरका जाति थिए भनी चिनाउँथ्यो। पछि अब्राहामका छोरा इसहाक जन्मे, र तिनी आठ दिनको हुँदा अब्राहामले तिनले खतना गरे। पछि इसहाकका छोरा याकूब जन्मे। याकूब बाह्र छोराका पिता बने जसलाई हामी यहूदीहरूले पूर्वजहरू अर्थात् हाम्रा पुर्खाहरू भन्छौँ”। BSB BSB: Then God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision, and Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day. And Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.
9 UDB तपाईंहरूलाई थाहै छ कि याकूबले आफ्ना कान्छा छोरा योसेफलाई धेरै माया गरेकाले तिनका दाजुहरू डाही बने। त्यसैले, तिनीहरूले तिनलाई व्यापारीहरूका हातमा बेचिदिए, जसले तिनलाई मिश्रमा लगे जहाँ तिनी नोकर बने। तर परमेश्वरले योसेफको मदत गर्नुभयो। BSB BSB: Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him
10 UDB जब-जब मानिसहरूले योसेफलाई दुःख दिन्थे परमेश्वरले तिनलाई जोगाउनुहुन्थ्यो। उहाँले योसेफलाई बुद्धिमान् तुल्याउनुभयो, र मिश्रका राजा फारोलाई योसेफको बारेमा राम्रो सोच्न लगाउनुभयो। त्यसैले, फारोले योसेफलाई मिश्रका शासक तुल्याई फारोका सारा सम्पत्तिको हेरचाह गर्ने जिम्मा दिए। BSB BSB: and rescued him from all his troubles. He granted Joseph favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and all his household.
11 UDB योसेफले त्यो काम गरिरहँदा एउटा यस्तो समय आयो, जुन बेला मिश्र र कनानमा थोरै मात्र भोजन उपलब्ध हुन थाल्यो। मानिसहरूले कष्ट पाइरहेका थिए। कनानमा याकूब र तिनका छोराहरूले पनि पर्याप्त भोजन पाउन सकेनन्। BSB BSB: Then famine and great suffering swept across Egypt and Canaan, and our fathers could not find food.
12 UDB मिश्रमा अन्न किन्न पाईंदोरहेछ भनी जब याकूबले सुने, तिनले योसेफका दाजुहरूलाई अन्न किन्नलाई त्यहाँ पठाए। तिनीहरू गए, र तिनीहरूले योसेफबाट अन्न किने, तापनि तिनीहरूले तिनलाई चिनेनन्। त्यसपछि तिनीहरू घर फर्के। BSB BSB: When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers on their first visit.
13 UDB योसेफका दाजुहरू दोस्रो पटक मिश्रमा गए, र तिनीहरूले फेरि पनि योसेफबाट अन्न किने। तर यस पटक भने तिनले आफूलाई प्रकट गरे। योसेफका मानिसहरू हिब्रू थिए, र कनानबाट आएका मानिसहरू तिनका दाजुहरू थिए भनी फारोले थाहा पाए। BSB BSB: On their second visit, Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers, and his family became known to Pharaoh.
14 UDB योसेफले आफ्ना दाजुहरूलाई फिर्ता पठाएपछि याकूब र तिनका सारा परिवार मिश्रमा आएको योसेफ चाहन्थे भनी तिनीहरूले आफ्ना पिता याकूबलाई बताए। त्यस बेला याकूबको परिवारमा पचहत्तर जना मानिस थिए। BSB BSB: Then Joseph sent for his father Jacob and all his relatives, seventy-five in all.
15 UDB याकूबले त्यो कुरा सुनेपछि तिनी र तिनका सारा परिवार मिश्रमा बस्न गए। पछि त्यहीँ नै याकूबको मृत्यु भयो, र हाम्रा पुर्खाहरू अर्थात् तिनका छोराहरू पनि त्यहीँ नै मरे। BSB BSB: So Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our fathers died.
16 UDB तिनीहरूका मृत शरीरहरूलाई हाम्रो देशमा ल्याइयो, र अब्राहामले शकेममा हामोरका छोराहरूबाट किनेको चिहानमा तिनीहरूलाई गाडियो। BSB BSB: Their bones were carried back to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor at Shechem for a price he paid in silver.
17 UDB परमेश्वरले अब्राहामलाई प्रतिज्ञा गर्नुभएबमोजिम उहाँले हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई मिश्रबाट छुटाएर ल्याउन खोज्नुहुँदा तिनीहरूको सङ्ख्या अत्यधिक बढेको थियो। BSB BSB: As the time drew near for God to fulfill His promise to Abraham, our people in Egypt increased greatly in number.
18 UDB मिश्रमा अर्का राजाले शासन गर्न थालेका थिए। तिनको शासनकालभन्दा धेरै पहिले योसेफले मिश्रका मानिसहरूलाई निकै मदत पुर्याएका थिए भनी नयाँ राजालाई थाहा थिएन। BSB BSB: Then another king, who knew nothing of Joseph, arose over Egypt.
19 UDB ती राजाले हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई क्रूरतापूर्वक व्यवहार गरे। तिनले तिनीहरूलाई थिचोमिचो गरे र धेरै दुःख दिए। तिनले मरून् भन्ने हेतुले नयाँ जन्मेका बालकहरूलाई घरबाहिर लगेर फ्याँक्ने आज्ञा पनि दिए। BSB BSB: He exploited our people and oppressed our fathers, forcing them to abandon their infants so they would die.
20 UDB त्यसै बेला मोशाको जन्म भयो। परमेश्वरको दृष्टिमा तिनी ज्यादै सुन्दर बालक थिए। त्यसैले, तिनका बुबाआमाले तिनलाई तिन महिनासम्म आफ्नो घरमा लुकाई राखे। BSB BSB: At that time Moses was born, and he was beautiful in the sight of God. For three months he was nurtured in his father’s house.
21 UDB त्यसपछि तिनीहरूले तिनलाई घरबाहिर ल्याउनुपर्यो। तर फारोकी छोरीले तिनलाई फेला पारिन्, र तिनलाई उनको आफ्नै छोराझैँ हुर्काइन्। BSB BSB: When he was set outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son.
22 UDB मोशालाई मिश्रका मानिसहरूले जानेका सारा विद्या सिकाइयो। तिनी हुर्केपछि तिनले शक्तिशाली ढङ्गमा बोले, र काम गरे। BSB BSB: So Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.
23 UDB करिब चालिस वर्षको उमेरमा मोशाले एक दिन आफ्ना मानिसहरू अर्थात् इस्राएलीहरूलाई भेट गर्न जाने निधो गरे। BSB BSB: When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his brothers, the children of Israel.
24 UDB तिनले एक मिश्रीले एक जना इस्राएलीलाई दुर्व्यवहार गरेको देखे। त्यसैले, तिनी ती इस्राएलीलाई सहायता गर्न गए। मिश्रीलाई मारी तिनले बदला लिए। BSB BSB: And when he saw one of them being mistreated, Moses went to his defense and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian who was oppressing him.

26 UDB अर्को दिन मोशाले दुई जना इस्राएली एक आपसमा झगडा गरिरहका देखे। तिनले यसो भन्दै तिनीहरूलाई रोक्न खोजे, “तपाईंहरू दुवै नै इस्राएली हुनुहुन्छ, र पनि किन एक अर्कालाई चोट पुर्याउनुहुन्छ?” BSB BSB: The next day he came upon two Israelites who were fighting, and he tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other?’
27 UDB तर चोट पुर्याउने मानिसले मोशालाई धकेलेर तिनलाई भने, “हामीमाथि शासक र न्यायकर्ता हुन तिमीलाई कसैले नियुक्त गरेको छैन। BSB BSB: But the man who was abusing his neighbor pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us?
28 UDB के हिजो तिमीले त्यस मिश्रीलाई मारेझैँ मलाई पनि मार्न चाहन्छौ?” BSB BSB: Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’
29 UDB मोशाले त्यो कुरा सुनेपछि तिनी मिश्रबाट मिद्यान देशमा गए। तिनी त्यहाँ केही वर्षसम्म बसे। तिनले बिहे गरे, र तिनीहरूबाट दुई छोरा जन्मे। BSB BSB: At this remark, Moses fled to the land of Midian, where he lived as a foreigner and had two sons.
30 UDB चालिस वर्ष बितेपछि एक दिन परमप्रभु परमेश्वर स्वर्गदूतको रूपमा मोशाकहाँ देखा पर्नुभयो। उहाँ सीनै पर्वत नजिकैको उजाड-स्थानमा जलिरहेको पोथ्राको ज्वालामा देखा पर्नुभयो। BSB BSB: After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.
31 UDB मोशाले यो देखेपछि तिनी छक्क परे, किनभने पोथ्रा भस्म भइरहेको थिएन। तिनी त्यसलाई हेर्न अझ नजिकै जाँदा तिनले परमप्रभु परमेश्वरले तिनलाई यसो भन्नुभएको आवाज सुने, BSB BSB: When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight. As he approached to look more closely, the voice of the Lord came to him:
32 UDB “म तिम्रा पुर्खाहरूले पुजेका परमेश्वर हुँ। म अब्राहाम, इसहाक र याकूबले पुजेका परमेश्वर हुँ।” मोशा डरले काँप्न लागे र तिनले पोथ्रालाई हेर्न सकेनन्। BSB BSB: ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.
33 UDB तब परमप्रभु परमेश्वरले तिनलाई भन्नुभयो, “तिमीले मेरो आदर देखाउन तिम्रा जुत्ता फुकाल। किनकि म यहीँ छु, र तिमी उभिरहेको स्थान खासमा मेरो हो। BSB BSB: Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
34 UDB कसरी मिश्रका मानिसहरूले मेरा मानिसहरूलाई निरन्तर रूपमा दुःख दिइरहेका छन् भनी मैले निश्चय नै देखेको छु। मैले तिनीहरूका क्रन्दन सुनेको छु। त्यसैले, तिनीहरूलाई मिश्रबाट छुटकारा दिन म ओर्लीआएको छु। अब तिमी तयार होऊ, किनभने म तिमीलाई मिश्रमै फर्काउँदै छु।” BSB BSB: I have indeed seen the oppression of My people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
35 UDB यिनै मोशाले हाम्रा इस्राएल जातिलाई मदत गर्न खोजेका थिए, तर तिनीहरूले यसो भन्दै इन्कार गरे, “कसैले तिमीलाई शासक र न्यायकर्ता नियुक्त गरेको छैन।” तिनीहरूलाई दासत्वबाट छुटकारा दिई तिनीहरूलाई अगुवाइ गर्न परमेश्वरले नै मोशालाई पठाउनुभएको थियो। पोथ्रामा देखा पर्ने स्वर्गदूतले तिनलाई यसो गर्न आज्ञा दिएका थिए। BSB BSB: This Moses, whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be their ruler and redeemer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 UDB मोशाले नै हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई मिश्रबाट अगुवाइ गरेर ल्याए। परमेश्वर तिनीसित हुनुहुन्थ्यो भनी देखाउन परमेश्वरले तिनको हातद्वारा मिश्रमा विभिन्न किसिमका आश्चर्यकर्महरू गर्नुभयो। तिनले लाल समुद्र र इस्राएल जाति चालिस वर्षसम्म उजाड-स्थानमा छँदा पनि विभिन्न आश्चर्यकर्महरू गर्नुभयो। BSB BSB: He led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and for forty years in the wilderness.
38 UDB यी तिनै मोशा थिए, जो उजाड-स्थानमा इस्राएलीहरूका बिचमा थिए। सीनै पर्वतमा स्वर्गदूत तिनीकहाँ नै देखा परेका थिए। यी तिनै मोशा थिए, जसलाई परमेश्वरले स्वर्गदूतद्वारा सीनै पर्वतमा हाम्रा व्यवस्था दिनुभयो, र तिनले स्वर्गदूतबाट सुनेका कुराहरू हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई बताए। तिनले नै सदाको लागि कसरी जिउने भनी बताउने वचनहरू परमेश्वरबाट पाएका थिए, र ती वचनहरू हामीलाई दिए। BSB BSB: He was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. And he received living words to pass on to us.
39 UDB तथापि हाम्रा पुर्खाहरू मोशाप्रति आज्ञाकारी भएनन्। बरु, तिनीहरूले मोशालाई आफ्नो अगुवाको रूपमा इन्कार गरे, र तिनीहरू मिश्रमा नै फर्कन चाहन्थे। BSB BSB: But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
40 UDB त्यसैले, तिनीहरूले मोशाका दाजु हारूनलाई भने, “हाम्रा निम्ति मूर्तिहरू बनाउनुहोस्, जो हामीलाई डोर्याउने देवताहरू बनून्। हामीलाई मिश्रदेखि ल्याउने मोशालाई के भयो हामी जान्दैनौँ।” BSB BSB: They said to Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us! As for this Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.’
41 UDB त्यसैले, तिनीहरूले बाछोजस्तो देखिने एउटा प्रतिमा बनाए। तिनीहरूले त्यसको पूजा गर्न बलिदानहरू चढाए, र तिनीहरूले जे बनाएका थिए त्यसमा रमाउँदै तिनीहरूले गाए, र नाचे। BSB BSB: At that time they made a calf and offered a sacrifice to the idol, rejoicing in the works of their hands.
42 UDB परमेश्वरले तिनीहरूलाई रोक्नुभएन। उहाँले तिनीहरूलाई आकाशका सूर्य, चन्द्रमा र ताराहरूको पूजा गर्न छाडिदिनुभयो। यो कुरा एक जना अगमवक्ताको वचनसित मेल खान्छः परमेश्वरले भन्नुभयो, “हे इस्राएल जाति हो, तिमीहरू चालिस वर्षसम्म उजाड-स्थानमा छँदा तिमीहरूले बारम्बार जनावरहरू मारेर बलिदान चढाउँदा के तिमीहरूले मलाई नै चढाएका थियौ? BSB BSB: But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
43 UDB यसको विपरीत तिमीहरूले पाललाई एक ठाउँदेखि अर्को ठाउँमा सार्यौ, जसभित्र मोलोख देवताको प्रतिनिधित्व गर्ने मूर्ति थियो, जसलाई तिमीहरूले पुज्यौ। तिमीहरूले रेफन भनिने ताराको प्रतिमालाई पनि आफूसँगै लग्यौ। तिमीहरूले मलाई पुज्नुको साटो तिमीहरूले आफैँले बनाएका ती मूर्तिहरूलाई पुज्यौ। त्यसैले, म तिमीहरूलाई तिमीहरूको देशबाट बेबिलोनभन्दा परको देशमा निर्वासनमा पठाउनेछु।” BSB BSB: You have taken along the tabernacle of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’
44 UDB “हाम्रा पुर्खाहरू उजाड-स्थानमा हुँदा तिनीहरूले पवित्र वासस्थानमा परमेश्वरको आराधना गरे। यसले तिनीहरूका बिचमा उहाँको उपस्थितिलाई दर्शाउँथ्यो। परमेश्वरले मोशालाई आज्ञा दिनुभएबमोजिम तिनीहरूले पवित्रस्थान बनाएका थिए। मोशाले पर्वतमा देखेको नमुनाअनुसार नै यसलाई बनाइएको थियो। BSB BSB: Our fathers had the tabernacle of the Testimony with them in the wilderness. It was constructed exactly as God had directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen.
45 UDB पछि यहोशूले हाम्रा पुर्खाहरूलाई यस देशमा ल्याउँदा तिनीहरूले पवित्र वासस्थानलाई आफूसित ल्याएका थिए। परमेश्वरले यस देशमा बस्ने जातिहरूलाई निकाल्नुभएपछि तिनीहरूले यस देशलाई कब्जा गरे। यसरी, इस्राएलीहरूले यस देशको अधिकार गर्न सके। पवित्रस्थान राजा दाऊदको शासन कालसम्म यही देशमा रहेको थियो। BSB BSB: And our fathers who received it brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations God drove out before them. It remained until the time of David,
46 UDB दाऊदले परमेश्वरलाई प्रसन्न तुल्याए। तिनी र सारा इस्राएल जातिले उहाँको आराधना गर्नका लागि दाऊदले एउटा घर निर्माण गर्न पाऊँ भनी उहाँलाई बिन्ती चढाए। BSB BSB: who found favor in the sight of God and asked to provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
47 UDB तर परमेश्वरले दाऊदका पुत्र सोलोमनलाई उक्त भवन निर्माण गर्न भन्नुभयो, जहाँ मानिसहरूले उहाँको आराधना गर्न सक्थे।” BSB BSB: But it was Solomon who built the house for Him.
48 UDB “तथापि हामीलाई थाहा छ, कि परमेश्वर हरेक कुराभन्दा महानतर हुनुहुन्छ, र उहाँ मानिसले बनाएका घरहरूमा बास गर्नुहुन्न। जस्तो यशैयाले भनेका थिएः BSB BSB: However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
49 UDB परमेश्वरले भन्नुभयो, ‘स्वर्ग मेरो सिंहासन हो, र पृथ्वीचाहिँ मेरो पाउदान। BSB BSB: ‘Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or where will My place of repose be?
50 UDB स्वर्ग र पृथ्वीमा भएका यावत् थोकहरू मैले नै बनाएको हुँ। त्यसैले, मलाई बस्नको लागि मानिसहरूले कुनै भवन बनाउन सक्दैनन्!’ BSB BSB: Has not My hand made all these things?’
51 UDB तपाईंहरू उहाँप्रति अति नै हठी हुनुहुन्छ। तपाईंहरू आफ्ना पुर्खाहरूजस्तै हुनुहुन्छ। तिनीहरूले जस्तै तपाईंहरूले पनि सधैँ पवित्र आत्माको विरोध गर्नुहुन्छ। BSB BSB: You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit, just as your fathers did.
