1 STF Vidite kakvu nam je ljubav dao Otac, da se deca Boћja nazovemo, i jesmo to. Zato nas svet ne poznaje, љto njega ne pozna. BSB BSB: Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.

7 STF Deиice, niko da vas ne vara! Koji tvori ono љto je pravo, pravedan je, kao љto je on pravedan. BSB BSB: Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
8 STF Koji tvori greh, od рavola je; jer рavo greљi od poиetka. Za to se javio Sin Boћji, da razori dela рavolja. BSB BSB: The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.
9 STF Koji je god roрen od Boga, ne иini greha, jer njegovo seme stoji u njemu; i ne moћe greљiti, jer je roрen od Boga. BSB BSB: Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
10 STF Po tom se poznaju deca Boћja i deca рavolja: koji god ne tvori ono љto je pravo, nije od Boga, i koji ne ljubi brata svoga. BSB BSB: By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
11 STF Jer je ovo glas koji ste иuli od poиetka: da ljubimo jedan drugoga. BSB BSB: This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
12 STF Ne kao љto Kain beљe od neиastivoga i ubi brata svoga. I zaљto ga ubi? Jer dela njegova behu zla, a brata mu pravedna. BSB BSB: Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did Cain slay him? Because his own deeds were evil, while those of his brother were righteous.
13 STF Ne иudite se, brжao, љto svet mrzi na vas. BSB BSB: So do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
15 STF Svaki koji mrzi na brata svoga, krvnik je ljudski, i znate da nijedan krvnik ljudski nema u sebi veиnoga ћivota. BSB BSB: Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer.
16 STF Po tom smo poznali ljubav, љto je on ћivot svoj dao za nas; i mi smo duћni dati ћivot za braжu. BSB BSB: By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
17 STF A koji ima bogatstva ovoga sveta i vidi brata svoga u nevolji i zatvori srce svoje od njega, kako moћe biti ljubav Boћja u njemu? BSB BSB: If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?
18 STF Deиice, ne ljubimo reиju i jezikom, nego delom i istinom! BSB BSB: Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth.
19 STF Po tom жemo poznati da smo od istine, i umiriжemo pred njim srca svoja; BSB BSB: And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence:
20 STF jer, ako nas osuрuje srce, Bog je veжi od srca naљega i zna sve. BSB BSB: Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.
21 STF Ljubazni, ako (nas) ne osuрuje srce, imamo slobodu pred Bogom, BSB BSB: Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God,
22 STF i primamo od njega ono љto iљtemo, jer zapovesti njegove drћimo i иinimo љto je njemu ugodno. BSB BSB: and we will receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight.
23 STF I ovo je zapovest njegova, da verujemo u ime Sina njegova Isusa Hrista i da ljubimo jedan drugoga, kao љto nam je zapovedio. BSB BSB: And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and we should love one another just as He commanded us.
24 STF I koji drћi zapovesti njegove, stoji u njemu i on u njemu. I po tom poznajemo da je u nama: po Duhu koga nam je dao. BSB BSB: Whoever keeps His commandments remains in God, and God in him. And by this we know that He remains in us: by the Spirit He has given us.
