WBS Saying to them, Go into the village over against you, and immediately ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her, loose them , and bring them to me. BSB BSB: saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt beside her. Untie them and bring them to Me.
WBS And if any man shall say aught to you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and immediately he will send them. BSB BSB: If anyone questions you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
WBS All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, BSB BSB: This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
WBS Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh to thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. BSB BSB: “Say to the Daughter of Zion, ‘See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
WBS And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, BSB BSB: So the disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.
WBS And brought the ass and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. BSB BSB: They brought the donkey and the colt and laid their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them.
WBS And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them in the way. BSB BSB: A massive crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
WBS And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. BSB BSB: The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed were shouting: “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest!”
WBS And when he had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? BSB BSB: When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

WBS And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves. BSB BSB: Then Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves.
WBS And said to them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves. BSB BSB: And He declared to them, “It is written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer.’ But you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”
WBS And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. BSB BSB: The blind and the lame came to Him at the temple, and He healed them.
WBS And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were greatly displeased, BSB BSB: But the chief priests and scribes were indignant when they saw the wonders He performed and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
WBS And said to him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith to them, Yes: have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? BSB BSB: “Do You hear what these children are saying?” they asked. “Yes,” Jesus answered. “Have you never read: ‘From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise’?”
WBS And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany, and he lodged there. BSB BSB: Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where He spent the night.
The Barren Fig Tree (Mark 11:12–14; Mark 11:20–25)
WBS And when he saw a fig-tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing on it, but leaves only, and said to it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforth for ever. And immediately the fig-tree withered. BSB BSB: Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. “May you never bear fruit again!” He said. And immediately the tree withered.
WBS And when the disciples saw it , they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig-tree withered! BSB BSB: When the disciples saw this, they marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”
WBS Jesus answered and said to them, Verily I say to you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig-tree, but also, if ye shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. BSB BSB: “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.
WBS And all things whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. BSB BSB: If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Jesus’ Authority Challenged (Mark 11:27–33; Luke 20:1–8)
WBS And when he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things; and who gave thee this authority? BSB BSB: When Jesus returned to the temple courts and began to teach, the chief priests and elders of the people came up to Him. “By what authority are You doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave You this authority?”
WBS And Jesus answered and said to them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. BSB BSB: “I will also ask you one question,” Jesus replied, “and if you answer Me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
WBS The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him? BSB BSB: What was the source of John’s baptism? Was it from heaven or from men?” They deliberated among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will ask, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
WBS But if we shall say, From men; we fear the people: for all hold John as a prophet. BSB BSB: But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the people, for they all regard John as a prophet.”
WBS And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. BSB BSB: So they answered, “We do not know.” And Jesus replied, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
The Parable of the Two Sons 28 WBS But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work to-day in my vineyard. BSB BSB: But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first one and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
WBS He answered and said, I will not; but afterward he repented, and went. BSB BSB: ‘I will not,’ he replied. But later he changed his mind and went.
WBS And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go , sir: and went not. BSB BSB: Then the man went to the second son and told him the same thing. ‘I will, sir,’ he said. But he did not go.
WBS Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. BSB BSB: Which of the two did the will of his father?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
WBS For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it , repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. BSB BSB: For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
The Parable of the Wicked Tenants (Mark 12:1–12; Luke 20:9–18)
WBS Hear another parable; There was a certain householder, who planted a vineyard, and hedged it around, and digged a wine-press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a remote country: BSB BSB: Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
WBS And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. BSB BSB: When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the fruit.
WBS And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. BSB BSB: But the tenants seized his servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
WBS Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did to them in like manner. BSB BSB: Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group. But the tenants did the same to them.
WBS But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. BSB BSB: Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
WBS But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. BSB BSB: But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance.’
WBS And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him . BSB BSB: So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
WBS When therefore the Lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen? BSB BSB: Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those tenants?”
WBS They say to him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons. BSB BSB: “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the fruit at harvest time.”
WBS Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? BSB BSB: Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
WBS Therefore I say to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it. BSB BSB: Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
WBS And whoever shall fall on this stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. BSB BSB: He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”
WBS And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them. BSB BSB: When the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they knew that Jesus was speaking about them.
WBS But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet. BSB BSB: Although they wanted to arrest Him, they were afraid of the crowds, because the people regarded Him as a prophet.
