5 PBDT Kolaie ingat bahwa Kristus nyata akan mahapus dusa, dengan lalam Inya hontae tege dusa. BSB BSB: But you know that Christ appeared to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin.
6 PBDT Satiap urang am diam lalal Inya hontae mangaruh dusa; hontae saurang pun am badusa jadi maila umakan kasene Inya. BSB BSB: No one who remains in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has seen Him or known Him.
7 PBDT Anak-anakku, umet biarkan saurang pun manyosatkanmu. Urang am mangaruh kabujur ialah urang bujur, samah nulat Kristus ialah bujur. BSB BSB: Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.
8 PBDT Urang am manhgaruh dusa baasal mula setan laie setan jadie badusa mula hariah. Anak Hatalla datang tujuan itie: mahancurkan perbuatan-perbuatan setan. BSB BSB: The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.
9 PBDT Honta saurang pun am lahir mula Hatalla mangaruh dusa laie bibit Hatalla diam lalam Dirinya; dengan inya hontae ulih mangaruh dusa laie inya jadie dilahirkan mula Hatalla. BSB BSB: Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
10 PBDT Nulat inyah, sapakah anak-anak Hatalla dengan sapakah anak-anak Iblis manjadie Jelas. Urang am hontae mangaruh kabujur hontae baasal mula Hatalla, inyah jam urang am hontae mangasihi manyari-manyarinya. BSB BSB: By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

BSB BSB: If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?
18 PBDT Anak-anakku, marilah dirie mangasihi hontae dengan paner atau lilah, malainkan dengan kalakuan umakan kabujur. BSB BSB: Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth.
19 PBDT Dengan itie, dirie akan ingat bahwa dirie baasal mula kabujur umakan dirie akan manoguhkan hati dirie paharap Hatalla. BSB BSB: And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence:
20 PBDT Sabab, apabila hati dirie manyalahkan dirie, Hatalla lobih bakah mula hati dirie, dengan Inya ingat uras sasuatu. BSB BSB: Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.
21 PBDT Manyarie-manyarieku am kukasih, jaka hati manyalahkan dirie, dirie mahompu keyakinan diri paharap Hatalla. BSB BSB: Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God,
22 PBDT Apa pun am dirie minta, dirie manarimanya mula Hatalla laie dirie manurut parintah-parintah-Nya dengan mangaruh apa am berkenen akan Inya. BSB BSB: and we will receive from Him whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight.
23 PBDT Dengan, itielah parintah Hatalla, ialah nyaman dirie percaya lalam nama Anak-Nya, Yesus Kristus, umakan saling mangasihi nulat am jadie Inya Parintahkan akan dirie. BSB BSB: And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and we should love one another just as He commanded us.
24 PBDT Urang am manaati printah-parintah Hatalla diam lalam Inya, dengan Hatalla diam lalam inya. Dengan itie dirie ingat bahwa Hatalla diam lalam dirie, laie Roh am Hatalla karuniakan akan dirie. BSB BSB: Whoever keeps His commandments remains in God, and God in him. And by this we know that He remains in us: by the Spirit He has given us.
